Hi Royal Daughters! I am so glad you are here to join me on this journey through the Bible as we take a deeper look at powerful women of God who were driven by their God-given purpose. Have you ever had a clear path as to how you wanted a certain situation to turn out but in actuality the outcome was not what you had planned? Yes! It is okay. I definitely know how you feel. I have as well but thank God for it ending another way. Sis, thank God because He intervened on your behalf, and it was all in His plans to keep you on the right road. Do not get bitter because that door was closed. It is so good to be at the right place at the right time doing the right thing you get the right results. Today, we are going to see how Lydia was at the right place at the right time. She was one of the most influential business women in the Bible. She was a seller of purple cloth, a material used by the most wealthiest and elite of her day. Some things I loved about Lydia:
“And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.”-Acts 16:13 KJV
She kept prayer a first priority
When the Apostle Paul had found her she was having a prayer meeting outside the city of Philippi by the riverside with her fellow sisters in Christ. It so important that as women we connect with other women of God who believe the same as we believe. Iron truly sharpens iron. We need our fellow sisters in Christ as much as possible to help sharpen us in our faith. It is so imperative that we build one another up in prayer and in the Word of God. We need our sisters in the Lord to pray with us. There is power in prayer and unity. We must pray without ceasing about everything. Make time for prayer daily.
“And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira,”-Acts 16:14a KJV
She worked to please the Lord
Whatever her hands found to do for Him she did it even in her business. She was from Thyatira which was a city famous center for indigo trade. She took the work that she done for the Lord very seriously. Sis, whatever we do for Christ ultimately that is the only thing that will last. Make Him first priority in whatever you find your hands to do! He will equip you to do the work that He has called you to do. Never lose sight on the things that He has called you to do.
“which worshiped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.-Acts 16:14b KJV
She worshiped God
Oh how I love this! Lydia was a woman who surrendered her heart to the Lord and worshiped Him as her provider. She was moved by the things of God. The Lord opened her heart that day to receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God opened her heart to take heed to what Apostle Paul was saying. She simply believed. After she believed her and her household was baptized. God seeks women today whose hearts are open to hear His voice. Whose hearts are open to listen and obey His voice. Women who wholeheartedly surrender to His way over their own. God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. He still seeks such to worship Him on today.
“And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.”-Acts 16:15 KJV
She was a woman of great hospitality
She invited Apostle Paul and his friends to come stay with her in her home, if they had judged her to be faithful to the Lord. “And she constrained us” meaning she prevailed upon us that it was truly in her heart to be hospitable. They believed that she was sincere and pure in her heart, and stayed at her home. How many will go the extra mile to be hospitable toward others especially the household of faith.
Lord, help us to women who pursue power of God above all else. Let us seek You wholeheartedly. I pray you were encouraged by today’s post as you continue to be the godly woman God is calling you to be. I have designed this PDF Bible Verse Printable just for you! Please share with a friend who needs this encouragement and continue to walk worthy of the calling that has been placed on your life.
