5 Tips On How To Be Content In Your Singleness

5 Tips On How To Be Content In Your Singleness

Hey sis! Today, I would like to share some lessons I’ve learned in my singleness and how to be more content in this season. I know it may be hard to see all of your friends happily married “according to social media,” seeing the hundreds of pictures of their significant other while you are over here patiently waiting on the Lord. I totally get it! Yes, I know it can be hard at times but there is beauty in your singleness. It is a gift from God, but oh how it took me a while to learn this. Have you ever just poured your affections and heart into a person you liked and still felt like you did not receive that same love in return? O how I felled into that trap of trying to make it happen before it was time without letting it happen in God’s timing. This was so not God’s plan. What happens when you think you heard God clearly? The valuable lesson I learned is do not try to get ahead of God! Again, I say wait on the Lord! I could have saved myself a whole lot of heartache and pain had I not gotten ahead of God thinking I heard Him clearly. I thought I was obeying God by entering into this courtship, but I should have spent some more time in prayer about it.

1.Pray until you hear an answer from God

Yes, I did pray before I entered the courtship but did I hear God clearly or did I hear what my emotions wanted to hear. Yes, my emotions got the best of me. It is so important to pray until you hear an answer from God, not what you think you heard God say. Not what you want God to say but His voice ONLY because people will come and say, “God told me to tell you…you are my wife,” but you are sitting over there like God and I did not have this conversation. I would encourage you sis to really pray and not be all in your emotions like I was because we know God is not in emotions.

2.Hide yourself in the Word of God

A man of God told me during service to “hide myself” I was wondering what he meant by that after he questioned did I want to be married. During the courtship, I was trying to understand what he meant. Now, I fully understand what God was saying through the man of God.  In other words, stay hidden so you can be found by the ONE God has for you. When you are hidden in the Word of God you can see clearly and hear clearly. The Word of God will shed light on all things. I thank God for Him revealing some things to me. He will definitely show you your heart and if it is lining up with His Will.

3.Do not settle for the counterfeits

You may be asking what is a counterfeit? I am so glad you asked sis! A counterfeit is one that imitates like he is ready for real commitment when he is obviously not. Do not ignore those red flags that God may be revealing to you about the person. Sis, it is good to have spiritual friends around you to help you see counterfeits when they come because you may be all into the person which can sometimes hinder your ability to see those red flags. You want the real thing not a counterfeit. What God truly has for you it will come effortless. You will not have to try to make it happen, but when the time is right it will surely happen. What I have learned is that God is your husband, and when you see Him as such it makes the waiting a whole lot easier. Do not settle for the counterfeit when God desires that you have the best. Wait on God’s best sis.

4.Do not awaken love until it is time

A scripture that is so profoundly powerful is Song of Solomon 8:4” I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases.”  Solomon encourages the young women of Jerusalem to not awaken love before the time is right. I wish I would listened to this plea. I am pleading that same thing to you from experience. It will save you from a whole lot of heartache and pain. Solomon said it in two more times in verses 2:7 and 3:5. Do not get all in your emotions sis seek God before you make a decision to be pursued. Sis, you really have to guard your heart with all diligence because your heart and salvation is too precious to trampled over by the foot of men that mean you no good.

5.Focus on serving God

Sis, our singleness is such a beautiful gift from God. Do not waste this sweet precious time away saying, “Lord, when will I be married?” “When is he coming?”  First, you have to be the one before he comes. Instead, focus on the work that He is calling you to do.  What are your passions and how are they lining up with your purpose? If you are unfulfilled without purpose while you are single, you will be unfulfilled without purpose while you are married. Your sufficiency should only come from Christ. Now, I embrace my singleness! What are your gifts? What is your calling? These are some good starting points. God has you to do a specific purpose for you to fulfill on this earth, and your singleness season is a prime time to do it. I love how the Apostle Paul described singleness in 1 Corinthians 7:35 “and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.” Yes, as a single you can do the things of the Lord without distraction. Paul contrasted the married person to care about the things of the world and how they can please their spouse. Embrace your season of singleness, sis!

Lord, Father God I pray for my single sisters that we would hold fast to Your Word that You make everything beautiful in Your timing. We will continue to cast down the lies of the enemy that tells us we are not worth being loved because You sent Your Son to love us and save us. In the name of Jesus, we come against confusion, doubt, and worry and all that satan represents. Father, we will continue to speak Your truth over our lives and let our minds be renewed in Your sweet Word daily to know that we are worth fighting for in Your Son Jesus name we pray. Amen!
